Wanted: Budding poets

March 2021: If you're living with MND and have a known or hidden talent for poetry, we'd like to hear from you.

On this year’s MND awareness day, we are planning to celebrate creativity, expressiveness and life.  We are inviting 4 people with MND to write poetry under the mentoring guidance of the University of Edinburgh’s poet-in-residence.

We know that living with MND is filled with many different experiences and emotions and poetry is a fulfilling creative avenue to connect with our feelings in a palpable and substantial way.

The individuals who take part in the project will have their poems recited, alongside musical accompaniment, as part of a live streamed event from St Cecilia’s hall in Edinburgh around MND Awareness Day in June 2021. The music will be provided for each poem by local musicians.

We also hope to take this opportunity to showcase the powerful and life-changing work achieved through SpeakUnique, the voice banking company launched from a research project from the Euan MacDonald Centre and the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic. We particularly welcome hearing from people who use the voice banking technology to communicate and would like to get involved in the project. However this is not at all essential to taking part.

Please contact Dr Maria Stavrou on mstavrou@exseed.ed.ac.uk if you are interested in getting involved.
