Dr Lyndsay Murray’s research focuses on understanding how and when motor neurons break down and developing new ways in which to protect them. Her main focus is on the childhood motor neuron disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She uses predominantly mouse models of this disease to try to identify new ways to protect motor neurons that could potentially be exploited pharmaceutically in the future.
Dr Murray was awarded her PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2010, before moving to Ottawa, Canada for a postdoctoral position for 4 years. She returned to Edinburgh in 2014 to start her own research group, and now combines research in motor neuron disease with teaching anatomy to medical and science students.
