Dr Raja Nirujogi

Independent Investigator
Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU), University of Dundee; UK Dementia Research Institute, University of Edinburgh

Raja leads a laboratory research group studying signalling pathways of motor neuron disease (MND) with a particular interest in two proteins implicated in this condition: TDP-43 and C9orf72. Raja uses state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometry to study how these proteins function within brain cells, and how measuring them accurately can provide insights into brain cell health.

Raja obtained his Ph.D. degree from Institute of Bioinformatics, Bangalore, India. He spent four years during his Ph.D. in the laboratories of Prof. Akhilesh Pandey and Prof. Richard Huganir at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. He joined the laboratory of Prof. Dario Alessi at the University of Dundee for his postdoctoral studies in March 2017.
