Method of fundraising
Tennis tournamentWhy did you decide to fundraise?
Kelvingrove Community Tennis Club is passionate about making tennis accessible to as many people as possible. We run two tennis coaching sessions every week for adults with learning disabilities and for adults with mental health problems. Our sessions are at the public tennis courts in Kelvingrove Park from April - September then indoors at the Gorbals Leisure Centre from October to March. We have a wonderful team of four coaches and up to two volunteers, everyone is encouraged to take part at whatever level might suit them regardless of any disability and our sessions are all good fun. We also have three sports wheelchairs that we'd like to use as an opportunity for people to try wheelchair tennis. Everyone is welcome and we are keen to get support workers involved too. We rely on grant funding, our current funder is the Weir Charitable Trust.
While we have also done some other fundraising for our own projects we believe in being outward looking and being part of a larger community so we are delighted to raise money this year at our Wimbledon-themed friendly tennis tournament at Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow, for the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research and Bobath Scotland.

How did you raise the money?
We held a Wimbledon-themed friendly tennis tournament with refreshments, strawberries and cream, Pimms and lemonade, sandwiches and cakes. We donated all entry fees and we also had a raffle with lots of prizes.
Fundraising wisdom:
Go for it! It’s hard work organising an event but it fits really well with the ethos of our club and gives me huge personal satisfaction.
